Kedarnath and Haridwar by Ankit Batra
There is another holy city of Islam Uttaranchal attracts thousands and thousands of pilgrims each year. At an altitude of 3584 meters, Kedarnath home to one of the twelve largest jyotirlingas Kedar or Shiva in the country. Blessed with stunning scenery, Kedarnath is also the source of the Mandakini river. Kerdarnath are among the Chardham, or four pilgrimage, which every Hindu must take to attain salvation. Kedarnath is in Rudraprayag district of Uttaranchal, bordering the Chamoli district has more than 200 shrines dedicated to Shiva, Kedarnath but among them are the most admired.
Legend
history of the Temple dates back to the Mahabharata. Legend has it that the Pandavas, after killing their brothers in the battle of Kurukshetra, who wanted to seek blessings of Lord Shiva to atone for their sins. But Lord Siva constantly eludes them and kept fleeing from one place to another. During this time he has taken the form of a bull and stayed in Kedarnath. While the Pandavas followed him there, he made a dive toward the ground, leaving his hump there. This conical projection is worshiped as idols. His other parties adored in the arms of other places on Tungnath, mouth Rudranath, naval and hair Madmaheshwar Kalpeshwar. With these Kedarnath shrines are called the Panchen Kedar.
Haridwar, which means Gate of God, is one of the holiest places in India. It is considered as old as Varanasi. Haridwar Kumbh Mela is celebrated every year on 6 and 12 in the famous Har ki Paud Ghat.
Haridwar is a holy city in the state of Uttaranchal in northern India. Known as the Gateway to the Gods, Haridwar is considered one of the seven holy places by the Hindu devas have left their footprints there. Here pilgrims float Diyas the Ganges, to commemorate their deceased ancestors. The city also stands as a gateway to three other pilgrimage destinations: Rishikesh, Badrinath and Kedarnath. In Haridwar, you will see a large statue of Shiva at the fork of the River. If you’re there for a short visit, it is really worthwhile to visit the temple on the hill with a magnificent view.
Haridwar has the privilege of IIT in Roorkee, formerly known as University of Roorkee, founded in 1847 as the first technical institute in India. The city has one of the “Navratna PSUs of India”, ie BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd., India). Piran Kaliar Tomb of Shabir Shahib in Roorkee is a living example of religious harmony in India, which is visited by people of all religious sects from all over the world. There is another university in the city called Gurukul Kangri Vishwa Vidyalaya apart from the head quarter of Uttaranchal State Public Service Commission being established at Haridwar. Besides this, Kumbh fair is organized at the interval every 12 years in this city, where about 1 crore pilgrims from around the world participate.
